2012 marks the Lexington South Lions Club's twenty-fifth annual Run for Sight.  This is one of the Lexington South Lions Club's main fund raisers for the year which helps the club in providing services to Lexington and the surrounding bluegrass community.

Race Information

Date: Saturday, April 7, 2012
Start time: 9:00 AM
Distance: 5K
Registration begins at 7:30 AM

Coffee and doughnuts provided.

Course Information
The course is an out-and-back and begins with a lap around the Lions compound track, then follows the blacktop road to a turnaround at the rear of the park  back to the track for a final lap and the finish line.

Directions

To get to Masterson Station park, take New Circle Road (Route 4) to Leestown Road (Exit #7).  Turn west onto Leestown road.  Turn right into Masterson Station Park and follow the main road to the Lions compound which will be on the left.

Entry Information

Early registration is $15 if postmarked by Friday, March 16, 2012.  All entries after that date are $20.  Each pre-registered entrant will receive a commemorative short-sleeve tee-shirt, tee-shirt not guaranteed on race day (although we have never run out before).

Awards

Trophies are awarded to the top three overall male and female winners. 

In addition medals are awarded to the top three male and female in each of the following 19 categories:

 
5 & Under 6 - 9 10 - 12 13 - 16 17 - 19
20 - 24 25 - 29 30 - 34 35 - 39 40 - 44
45 - 49 50 - 54 55 - 59 60 - 64 65 - 69
70 - 74 75 - 79 80  & Over Wheelchair  


Door Prizes

All entrants will be given a door prize drawing ticket at check-in for the many door prizes to be given away after the race.

 

Proceeds

Proceeds from the Run for Sight help support a variety of Lions charities, including:

  • The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation

         

  • Lions Camp Crescendo which provides a summer camp experience for hearing and vision impaired children as well as for children affected by aids and foster children.

         

  • Central Kentucky Radio Eye which provides visually and physically handicapped listeners with daily access to newspapers and other printed material.

        

  • Support for Leader Dogs for the Blind.

         

  • Eyeglasses for needy local persons, local, state, national, and international eye research, eye banks, screening and treatment.
  • Meeting a goal of screening all pre-school children in Kentucky for amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (crossed eyes).
  • Lions Clubs International Foundation---tsunamai, earthquake and other disaster relief. 
  • Lexington’s Child Development Center Fun Day.

Sponsorship

We are actively seeking new sponsors for the Run for Sight from businesses and individuals. This year we are requesting a $350 sponsorship.  We print the name and logo on the race tee-shirts which are given to each participant.
